I am also a practicing lawyer with over 20 years experience in the Mid-Atlantic and Washington-Area markets.

Over my career, I have resolved scores of disputes and closed dozens of transactions involving some of the Washington region's largest commercial landlords, builders, lenders and brokerage companies.

Many of my cases involved commercial leasing, where as a trial lawyer I handled my fair share of matters involving leases that tenants negotiated and signed without using a lawyer. Worse yet, in most if not all of these circumstances, the entire problem could have (and SHOULD HAVE) been avoided (or at least abated) if a lawyer had been involved during the deal-making, negotiation and signing process.

But why were these tenants doing this?
